1.1. LOcalization with Context Aware (LOCA) PRAM
Physically grounded deep learning-enabled gold nanoparticle localization and quantification in photonic resonator absorption microscopy for digital resolution molecular diagnostics (link)
  • Pioneered a deep learning approach to achieve highly accurate localization and quantification of gold nanoparticle molecular tags with sub-pixel resolution in Photonic Resonator Absorption Microscopy (PRAM)
  • Enhanced the quantification accuracy (92%), detection efficiency (90%), true negative and positive detection rates (10-fold), and dynamic range, compared to the conventional approach (65% and 63%, respectively).

  • Currently Developing a fully automated single molecule detection system utilizing the LOcalization with Context Aware (LOCA) Photonic Resonator Absorption Microscopy (PRAM) technique for cancer detection at Point-of-Care Setting.

2.3. Virus-Pod Duo (VPodDuo)
A dual-port, smartphone-linked, pocket-size fluorimeter for rapid molecular diagnostic assays at point-of-care (Under Review)
  • Demonstrated the Point-of-Care detection of nucleic acid sequences specific for various diseases, including Zika Virus (ZIKV), Staphylococcus aureus (MSSA), human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), lung cancers related biomarkers (miRNA L858R EFGR gene and miR-373-3p) with clinically relevant sensitivities using various assays (CRISPR/Cas, RPA, RT-LAMP, and TRAP) and the developed system.
  • Collaborated with a product development firm, Gener8, to refine the VPod system for manufacturability and field-deployability.

2.2. Virus-Pod (VPod)
  • Invented pocket-sized, smartphone-linked fluorimeter, enabling molecular diagnostics within 10 minutes.
  • Developed the embedded systems and the smartphone application for the wireless Bluetooth connectivity and cloud-based data storage.
  • Demonstrated the detection of pathogenic SARS-CoV-2 and its variants in saliva samples with clinically relevant sensitivity (10^4 virions/mL) using the DNA Nanostructure Net (DNA Net) assay and the developed VPod system.

2.1. Pathogen Tracker (PathTracker)
  • Developed the smartphone-linked optical instrument and microfluidic cartridge, capable of performing reverse transcription loop-mediated isothermal amplification assay (RT-LAMP) for Zika Virus (ZIKV) detection at Point-of-Care Setting. 
  • Co-developed a novel Spatial LAMP (S-LAMP) technique, achieving result-to-diagnostics under 22 minutes with whole blood sample with clinically relevant sensitivity of 10^3 copies/uL.
